When I was younger my brother and I used to fight over the drumstick when we would have the chance to go out to KFC for dinner.(Yes I know it’s awful! But we went very rarely). It was always our favourite piece. I think many people prefer the leg because it’s just the perfect piece to pick-up and eat with your hands! And that’s the best part, no utensils required. So the other day I was trying to find new ways to eat chicken and discovered drumsticks at the grocery store(how could I forget about them??). I really love spicy food so I also picked up a new hot sauce since I am not a huge fan of “Franks” since I don’t find it hot enough. I ended up buying buffalo style woodland’s hot sauce. I tasted it and it’s super spicy! Perfect! But I know not everyone loves spicy so I added some ingredients to tone it down a bit and make it delicious for everyone. This recipe is crazy simple and tastes awesome. Enjoy!
Serves 1(just double, triple etc. for however many drumsticks you wish to serve)
-1/4 tsp red pepper flakes
-1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
-1/4 tsp salt+ a little extra
-1 large chicken drumstick, skin included
-2 tbsp buffalo hot sauce (or your fav. hot sauce)
-1/4-1/2 tsp butter or margarine
-1/4 tsp honey
-optional: additional sweetener (ex. extra honey, stevia, splenda) for added sweetness
Bring first 3 ingredients to a boil in enough water to cover the drumstick. Once boiling, add the drumstick and boil, turning occasionally for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, preheat your oven to broil. Once the drumstick has finished cooking place on a tinfoil lined baking sheet(fold sides up to prevent liquid from spilling, spray tinfoil with cooking oil to prevent sticking). Place in the oven for about 6-10min until skin gets crispy. Flip and cook for another 6-10min until skin is crispy and well done on both sides. Remove from oven and sprinkle with salt.
In a small bowl, mix together hot sauce, honey and butter. Place in the microwave for about 20 sec. and stir until butter has melted and sauce has slightly thickened. (Microwave longer if necessary).
Now go ahead and serve immediately! Enjoy 🙂
