Okay so the first time I tried crepes, I didn't like them. Why? They served them plain with no sauce or fruit! That's like serving PB & J without the PB & J!! So when I went to Mexico and saw the had a crepe booth, I was a bit skeptical of how they would taste. But oh my lord, these were amazing! They had a warm chocolatey filling served atop a sweet strawberry sauce with chopped bananas, strawberries & powdered sugar on top of the crepe itself. Word's cannot describe how amazing these were. When I got back I forgot about my amazing crepes for awhile..that is until this morning when I had this crazy craving for crepes! Knowing I could not deny this craving, I created my own version of those memorable crepes. The result?? They are awesome! The filling is sweet and delicious, I could just eat it off a spoon! & The chocolate Sauce? OMG heaven. The crepe was done french toast style so it's light cinnamon sugar flavour just adds to the awesomeness of this dish.
-1 multigrain Flat Out Wrap (these are great, high fibre, high protein, low-fat)
-1/4-1/2 tsp cinnamon(depending on how much you like!)
-1/2 tsp Truvia(or another sweetener to taste)
-Olive oil or Cooking Spray
Directions: Heat a large pan over medium-low heat. Spray generously with cooking oil(up the sides as well). In a large flat bowl, combine egg whites, almond milk, vanilla, salt, truvia and cinnamon with a fork. Meanwhile place the frozen strawberries in a small microwavable bowl and microwave on high for 2 minutes or until they are easy to mash. Stir in your banana and sweetener and sweeten to your liking. Microwave for another 20 seconds until hot. Now dredge your flatout wrap in the egg white mixture on both sides until well coated. You may have some extra batter that you can use up in my French Toast egg whites recipe! Now place the wrap in the hot pan and cook until browned on one side. Flip and cook for a bit on the other side. Now place half of your filling over one side of the wrap and fold. Cook for a few more minutes then take off the heat, top with extra strawberry-banana sauce and a dollop of chocolate sauce. Sprinkle some extra cinnamon and eat up! :). Enjoy!
Do you miss chocolate? Do you miss topping your sundaes and desserts with globs of delicious, sweet chocolately goodness? Do you love peanut butter? Well look no further..I'm here to help you out! (Sorry that sounded like a terrible attempt at an advertisement ploy). But anywhooo, this perfect sauce goes great with any fruit, pancakes, frozen yogurt, oatmeal, greek yogurt, cardboard…basically anything you'd like it to go on! It's just awesome. So if you love chocolate like me and you secretly eat peanut butter by the spoonful, this one's for you.
-1/4 cup water
-1/4 cup cocoa powder
-1 tbsp PB2 (powdered peanut butter)
-3 tbsp Truvia sweetener(or another sweetener to taste!)
-optional: stevia or splenda to taste(adds a different flavour of sweetness)
-1/8 tsp salt
-1 tsp vanilla extract
Directions: Whisk all ingredients in a small small bowl until thick and smooth. Store in the fridge and use as needed! 🙂 Enjoy!
***Peanut Free Option: leave out the PB2 and boil all ingredients for about 3 minutes or until thickened to your liking!***
Hey all! So if you've seen my other flavour reviews, you probably already know that I am a huge fan of Quest and their products. They have the best nutrition profile of any bars and all of their products taste amazing and deliver quality protein and fibre. Their customer service is also amazing and overall they are just a great company. So I've tried pretty much every flavour of their protein bar line including the Quest Craving PB Cups (which by the way are awesome!) but I had yet to try their new flavour White Chocolate Raspberry. While at my local nutrition store yesterday I noticed they just got them in and excitedly I bought 3 bars to try( I was sure I would like them!) And man was I right!! This bar is so delicious! I felt like I was eating dessert for breakfast. I love the new soft texture to all their bars. The white chocolate chunks and raspberry were throughout the entire bar. No fake raspberry taste here! It tasted almost like raspberry cheesecake or a raspberry muffin when heated up. I love how the sweetness from the white chocolate compliments the tanginess from the berries. When I finished the bar I had to restrain myself from eating another one! They are that good! & It's hard to believe but this flavour almost tops my past favourite, Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough or at least ties. Seriously if I could I would go buy a full box of just this flavour alone. I highly recommend you try it out and heat it up for about 15 sec. in the microwave for best results! That way all the white chocolate melts and makes it even more amazing :).
Rating: 10/10 Nice work Quest! Can't wait to see what you come up with next!
Hey guys! Today I thought I'd do something a little different and do a review! I would like to do more review posts so I was thinking, what better way to start off then with these AMAZING quest bars that I already love! Each bar contains roughly 20-21g of protein and is 200 cals or under so I will be doing a very basic reviewing each of these flavours individually just based on flavour/texture as well as other flavours not shown in the pictures. Plus I will do a quick review of Quest Cravings PB Cups, okay here it goes…
Peanut Butter & Jelly: This one had a bit of a dry texture out of the package and wasn't as soft as some of the others, it was more peanut butter flavour then jelly. After heating it in the microwave for a few seconds it was definitely better and easier to eat! Overall I give it a 7/10.
Chocolate Peanut Butter: MMMM.. When I opened this, the smell of chocolate peanut butter just wafted up! It made me want to bite into it right away! The soft texture of this bar was also a nice change from the peanut butter and jelly. It was less crumbly and more smooth, with little peanut pieces throughout. It was almost like a softer version of a tootsie roll! When heated up this bar was even better! Warm and goey..yum! I give this 9.5/10
Coconut Cashew: When I opened this it definitely smelt like coconut! & When I bit in it was also a softer texture, maybe a bit less soft then the Chocolate Peanut Butter but still great! It had little bits of coconut throughout it and pieces of cashew. I think this bar is more coconut flavour then cashew but really I didn't mind! (I love coconut). I never tried this one heated up but I am sure it's even better. Overall I give this bar 8.5/10
Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough: This is one of quest's newest releases and for sure one of their best…I received these as a prize for winning their photo contest!(Thanks Quest!) Sadly they don't sell this flavour where I live. Onto the review.. The smell when I first opened the bar was pretty good! Maybe not as good as Chocolate PB but that's just because I am a peanut butter fanatic. The texture is soft again which seems to be a trend with all of the most recent bars-with chocolate pieces scattered throughout. Anyways after tasting it on it's own, to be completely honest I thought it was really good but not as good as I would have expected after all the hype about it. But then…I put in in the microwave for 17 seconds and it was a whole other story. It melted beautifully with chocolate everywhere! The texture was very resemblent to real cookie dough and the taste was amazing! If you get these, definitely heat them up in the microwave! Or do as I did in the last picture, bake them for 5 min. in a 375* oven until slightly golden! Overall I give this bar a 9.5/10.
Chocolate Brownie: This is actually the first quest bar I ever tried so we go wayyy back, haha. This bar is denser then some of the other newer ones and a little more chewy but still quite good. It's more of a dark chocolate flavour with a very slight salty aftertaste. I actually liked how this bar isn't too sweet but those of you who are hoping for the usual brownie taste may be slightly disappointed. But with that said, many people love the Chocolate Brownie bar and I do have to agree that it has a very brownie-like texture when heated up! 🙂 I would give this bar an 8/10.
Mixed Berry Bliss: I actually bought this bar only because I could choose one more to fill my box. I really didn't have very high expectations since normally I am a chocolate person and I had heard a lot of mixed reviews about it. But this bar truly surprised me! It was thicker then some of the other quest bars which was a big plus for me! It also had a softer texture then some of the bars but not quite as soft as the newer ones. It has little berry pieces throughout the bar as well as…almonds! This is what really made the bar for me. The crunch of the almonds was awesome! I also love the fact that this bar is good eaten just as is or heated up. Overall I give this bar a 8.5/10 (Note that I am a harsh critic, haha most people might give this at least a 9!).
Banana Nut Muffin: This bar is slightly thinner then the other bars(compare with mixed berry). Although it's thinner it is still just as filling and very tasty! For once I actually preferred this bar eaten as is rather then heated up. This is probably because I found this bar to be extra sticky when hot! I almost couldn't get it off the plate, haha. But with that said, it was a delicious bar with walnut pieces throughout and a REAL banana flavour, not that fake laffy taffy flavour we all know. It really did taste like a banana nut muffin to me. Overall I give this bar 9/10.
Now for the bars I didn't review above, I have also tried apple pie, strawberry cheesecake and cinnamon roll. I found all three off these bars to be more dense and chewier then the ones listed above and they were not my top picks but some people love them so it's all personal preference! I still think they taste good but quest has so many other options that I would choose others first! 🙂
My Ranking From Best to Least Favourite Quest Bars:
1.Tie:Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough & Chocolate Peanut Butter
2.Banana Nut Muffin
3.Mixed Berry Bliss(both coconut/mixed berry could also be second depending on my mood, haha)
6.PB & J
Quest Cravings PB Cups: I kept these in the fridge and placed them in the freezer for about 5 min. before eating because I'd heard that they tasted better this way..Well I guess it worked. These were delicious! They really do taste like PB Cups. They may not be as creamy in the middle(the middle was slightly more dry) but they have the taste down perfectly and the chocolate coating is sweet and melty..These were also super filling! I could barely finish two of them. If you like PB Cups you should for sure try these out!
Hey guys! oh my gosh, It feels like it's been forever since I have posted! I have just been so busy with school, friends and everything else that I haven't had any time! I have felt so bad about not posting because I promised a new post on this like a week ago… Anyways I am glad to say I am finally getting around to it! I want to share with you guys the BEST “diet” more like lifestyle..on the planet!! I have never been happier with what I am eating and I have found such a perfect balance between health and enjoying life..it's amazing so I want all of you to be able to find that balance as well! So..
Have you ever heard of IIFYM? If not..it stands for “If It Fits Your Macros”. You can probably research into the details of this because there are many forums explaining the topic further, but basically it means you can eat ANY foods as long as they fit into your macros for the day. This includes..ice cream, cookies, cakes, pizza etc. you name it! BUT, haha yes there is a catch. I am not telling you to go out like a crazy person and eat every piece of junk food in site. As well, you try eating at least 100g of protein in junk food like chips/cookies, it's not easy! So instead, how this diet is suggested to be used is like so.. Read More!
Hey guys! Sorry for the lack of posts lately! I have been slacking off a bit with my blog due to the fact that I am trying to get my own eating habits and workouts in check. I think I've finally got it figured out! So..I have been trying to gain weight for a while but I have a hard time putting it on(high metabolism!). So lately I have started to count calories again for a bit just to make sure I am getting enough each day because it's very important to me to not under eat! I have also stopped almost any form of cardio. The only cardio I am doing is 20 minutes of steady running on the treadmill (5.0-5.5mph) one day a week. It's working really well! I love weight training so this works well for me. My current 5 day split + cardio is:
Monday – Chest + Back + Abs + TVA(Planks for 1:30, 1 min, 50sec, 30sec with a small rest in-between each)
Tuesday – Biceps + Triceps + Shoulders + Calfs
Wednesday – Quadriceps + Hamstrings + TVA(Planks for 1:30, 1 min, 50sec, 30sec with a small rest in-between each)
Thursday – Chest + Back + Abs + Calfs
Friday – OFF
Saturday – Biceps + Triceps + Shoulders + TVA(Planks for 1:30, 1 min, 50sec, 30sec with a small rest in-between each)
Sunday – 20 min run(Treadmill)
My schedule seems a little weird because I have friday off then I workout saturday but that's just because Friday always seems to be my busiest night haha. Anyways so my diet has changed, I take in about 1700-1750 calories a day at the moment but I am planning on increasing it as I increase the weight I am lifting. But so far it's working since in a week I have measured myself multiple times on an empty stomach and I've gained about 0.7 pounds. That's pretty good for a week. I am getting stronger too I have noticed. My new workouts are a lot more demanding and last anywhere from 30min-1 hour. Although I still recommend my past workouts (10-20min) for anyone! They really are great! But I am more focussed on putting on muscle mass at the moment so I am trying to steer away from my old more cardio based workouts for now. So overall I am just trying to eat more, lift more and worry less about every little detail. I feel much happier with where I am at!
P.S: ALL MY WORKOUTS ARE STILL DONE AT HOME. No gym for me 😉
Ready for my next post? I will be discussing “IIFYM” and my personal views on it as well as my current macros and a more in-depth view of my diet. Stay posted!
Hey guys! Here is today's workout. I will be doing it later tonight so I hope you are ready to join me! We are going to push as hard as we can and give it all we got! Work to your own limits. You will feel so much better once you finish if you know you worked as hard as you possibly could. Remember, the effort you put in= the results you'll achieve! So give it 100% and that's what you'll receive. Let's do this.
3 Rounds, as fast as possible. 4th Bonus round anyone?
Equipment Required: 1 set of middle weight dumbells (1 am using 15 pounds)
10 Dive bombers*
20 Squat Leg lifts**
5 Dumbell preacher curls***
5 Corkscrew curls****
10 Weighted lunge jumps*****(I used 8 pound weights for these)
*Search anywhere on the internet and you are sure to find an example of these! They are a form of push-up where your legs are kept wide, arms close in push-up position, bring your body forward as if you are going under a low fence, then return back under the fence. Repeat!
**Stand and do a regular squat, then after your squat, lift your right leg straight up to the right side of you. Place your leg back down, do another squat and then move on to your left leg. Keep alternating legs. Each leg will be 1 rep.
***Stand with your back straight and legs staggered, dumbells in each hand. Do a basic bicep curl then at the top of the curl, twist your wrists to face away from you and push your arms straight up. Lower your arms back down while twisting back to a bicep curl position, lower your arms to your sides. Repeat!
****Move into a low squat position while holding two dumbells. Place your elbows between your legs using them as support, do a bicep curl. If done properly, you should feel this in your legs and arms.
*****Do alternating lunges with weights in both hands by jumping upwards to switch legs.
Comment below and let me know how you did or what you thought about the workout! Ask questions if you need a better explanation of any of the moves.
Hope this is enough explanation! Also here is a picture of my delicious salad I had for lunch today. I topped it with a tsp of olive oil and 1 tbsp of balsamic vinegar!
Heyy everyone who is still awake! haha another late post, I always end up doing my workout really late at night then eating my post-workout snack while doing a post or two for the blog. Turns out today isn't a recipe but instead I thought I would let you all know what I do to keep in shape. I wanted to also go over a huge myth and something that annoys me very much about people's views on working out! Keep reading if you are interested. 🙂 continue reading..
Hey guys! I got back from my vacation yesterday! I had such an awesome time. The weather was amazing and so was the food and the people! I just wanted to share with you a few pics of some of the delicious dinners I had!
This was a delicious cracked conch sandwich served with onion rings(my favourite!) and tartar sauce.
Next is of course..a Pina Colada!
This was probably my favourite dinner of the vacation, fresh grouper in a tempura batter served with lime and fries/mango slaw on the side. Soo soo good! I felt bad I could only finish 1 piece of fish, if I had more room I would have finished it all haha.
Another night I had grouper yet again, (I really like grouper..). But this time it wasn't battered, it was served in some really nice spicy sauce with cucumber yogurt sauce and fluffy rice!
We ended up getting dessert to share that night which included an interesting form of cheesecake and a warm apple tart with ice cream! It wasn't exactly what we'd had in mind but it was still pretty good :).
Lastly I had this beautiful snapper with the best mashed potatoes ever! Topped with shrimp, lots of veggies and a great sauce. Yum!
Overall the food in turks was amazing and I would go back just for that itself! But my vacation really was amazing, I had so much fun and I loved just spending time alone with friends.
P.S I also bought this really cute mug for my tea, I love that it comes with a mini spoon!
Hey everyone ! I am loving my first day here in the carribean, its beautiful & super hot ! I wanted to share with you an easy workout you can do at home or on vacation!
-60 bicycles( count each time your knee touches your elbow )
-*15 frog crunches or in and out crunches if frog is too hard.
-*30 sitting legs up & together, hands clasped , side to side movements
-30 sec. Plank
-15 legs in and out lying down on back, hands folded behind head.
Repeat 2-3 times as fast as you can.
Enjoy! Feel free to lower or add reps as necessary.
* (use a weight for extra resistance, while legs are up, rotate your clasped hands from side to side, twisting your torso as.you do so)
*frog crunches are where you sit with your legs up and together, lean back slightly(this is similar to the side to side movements I talked about above), then at the same time, extend your legs straight and open your arms, then to complete the movement, bring your legs back in and pull your arms in without letting your feet touch the floor, repeat! For in and outs the only difference is that you do this same movment but keep your arms on the floor behing you for extra balance, you then only use your legs.
